My 13 week old lab puppy has little bumps on the hairless part of his lower abdomen. The skin is a little darker than usual. Some of them look like tiny scabs. They are dry. He also has some under his "armpit". He is not itchy. No hair loss. Do you think it's a disease or an allergic reaction? He's perfectly healthy otherwise.|||Many puppies get that rash on their tummies. It is likely a canine staph...not contageous to humans.
Puppies are sensitive to many subastances, such as grass, carpet cleaner, Frebreze, Swifter wet, etc , on their bellies.
The mild allergy causes a rash, and if it turns crusty or scabby, a staph infection has jumped in.
Try this for 3 days, and if you don't see improvement by Monday, get him in the see the vet.
When pup comes in after morning potty trip, wipe areas with wet cloth, dry, and apply a mixture of Vaseline, and douche powders. Just mix a small amount of each until it makes a salve...Apply very thinly.|||Our Lab Puppy has the same exact thing- around her belly. inner back legs %26amp; tail-- little dark scabs. (she doesnt have fleas)
has drumrchick's puppy's rash gone away? what worked? Report It
|||Well, if it's a black or darker looking rash, it's flea dirt. This is a sure sign your dog has fleas.
It could also be poison ivy or sumac if the dog is exposed to it.
Either way, if he's frantically itching, take him/her to the Vet.
Sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Fleas provide allergic reactions.|||Take him to the vet|||It might be allergies. I used to dog sit for a friend whose dog was allergic to grass. He was on the same med at the same dose as I was taking for my allergies. :-)|||it could be an allergic reaction to something he is eating. or it might be a skin problem.. dogs do get skin problems but there is medicine for that .. talk to a vet or research it online .. foxi|||They sound like little bites, but you said that he isn't itchy. And you're sure he's not scratching at them? Maybe a quick trip to the vet would be a good idea. Have you looked online a bit? Hope it's nothing major. Good luck.|||It could be alergies, it could also be fleas, even if he is not itchy, dogs/puppies could have allergice reactions to them. My recomendations would be to get him/her into the vet, they are probally due for vacc. anyway, and get them looked at.|||This is kind of simple. If he has fleas, give him a bath in a flea shampoo and let the shampoo sit for 10 minutes. (its most effective that way)
No fleas- then its allergies or mites. (must go to vet)
Easy but expensive fix- take him to the vet you get puppy fixed and walk out happy and with pocketbook in tears.|||My dog has those same bumps... she's only 2 yrs old in human years. But i haven't been exposed to Poison Ivy it could just be how there skin is made my dog has no fleas etc. Very Healthy too maybe we should go to the vet possibly|||take him to the vet to play it safe.|||I have a dog that gets exactly the same thing in the same places. I took him to an allergist, at the advice of my vet, and found out that he is allergic to grass (as well as a few other things). The allergist told me this was actually very common in dogs and often mistaken for fleas. My pup has to take steroids during the spring, summer, and beginning of fall months, but is fine in the winter.|||did the puppy get into ants? If the rash is on the belly more than likely he is allergic to something out in the grass like weed killer ant or bug spay. Since its on his stomach it must be something he has come in contact with just watch it. If it gets worse take to the vet|||poison ivy
products used in home on carpet or floor
food allergies often appear like this (soy, wheat, corn etc common allergins)|||Sounds more like ant bites.|||I would put Neosporin on it, just keep an eye out to make sure he doesnt lick it and keep it clean|||They are probably just gnat bites. Limit the amount of time you leave him out.|||HEAT RASH OR FLEA DUST
