This morning my son woke up with his whole butt red and chaffed and half of it towards the inside was raw like his skin had been scraped off. It makes my skin crawl because it's like I feel what I'm seeing. He gasped and cried the whole time I was wiping him. I smothered his butt in desitin, but I hope that's the best remedy!!!!|||My husband and boys have really sensitive skin (they get rashes if you look at them funny). Every once in awhile they would wake up with a wicked rash. It depends on the rash as to what cream is best. There are barrier creams like Desitin with zinc oxide that work really well for small rashes, creams like A%26amp;D and Aquaphor (which are petroleum jelly-based) that work well for prevention and covering big areas after. Then there are specific medicated creams like Benadryl and fungicides for killing yeast rashes or curing allergic rashes. Your son's rash sounds like he either had some acidic diarrhea or really concentrated urine, make sure to tackle the cause, not just the rash. Give him lots of water to drink for the next couple of days and stay away from fruit juice.
Air is the best thing for a rash, soaking in an oatmeal bath can help too. Try to clean him with warm water and a soft cloth instead of wipes, wipes can sting.
Hope that helps.|||my son had a bacterial infection in his BM when he was 5 months old. he was going every 30 minutes for 2 days straight (even after we started the medication). his poor little bum was so raw, that it was bleeding! the doctors told me that once the skin is broken, you should avoid using anything with zinc in it. for immediate pain relief, you mix equal parts of benadryl and liquid Maalox(not mint). you can put this on his bum and let it air dry. once he is settled, use Vaseline and cornstarch mixed together. this worked wonders for my son!!
i hope your son (and you) feel better soon. if the rash lasts for more than 3 days, you should have it checked. boys can get yeast infections too!!|||We had a similiar situation with our daughter about four months ago. We even called the doctor on it and email'd him with pictures. He made two suggestions: change her diaper to either the next size up/to and overnight diaper-only when she will be sleeping for periods longer than 3hrs. Secondly, he advised us to use Aquaphor instead of the traditional diaper creams/lotions. The Aquaphor provides a great "covering" to the skin and gives it an enormous amount of moisture. The "covering" provides a barrier to the urine having direct skin contact. We lather it on and we have not had any problems or diaper rashes since. Too, the Aquaphor is an amazing face moisturizer and lip balm...we are true fans/believers-even my hubby and I use it!|||Rather than wipe him, stick him in a warm bath with some baking soda. Baking soda reduces the acid from urine.
If there are little red dots around the border of the rash it is likely yeast and needs an antifungal. You can buy these at the pharmacy, any of these will work: external vaginal yeast infection cream, jock itch cream, or athlete's foot cream. They are all the same thing. Ask the pharmacist and he will find the no name all purpose one for you, it is usually half the price.
I haven't used desitin but if it is thick it will make things worse. You don't want something that is going to cause tearing when you put it on/take it off. The creamier the better.|||I've never experienced anything like that. Nothing more than some redness. I cant tell you if its normal, but can you think of anything that could be irritating him? Like, Do you keep him in the same diaper for a long time? Or is it too small? good luck|||My son use to suffer from one horrible diaper rash after another. He would be FINE when he went to bed and when he got up in the morning it looked as though the skin on his butt had been burned or scraped off (of course this was usually with a poopy diaper). It was horrible and he SCREAMED as I tried my best to clean it off quickly (with wet paper towels NOT butt wipes b/c they have alcohol in them!). There would be places on his rear that were BLEEDING and my heart just went out to him!! Uugghh.. it was awful!!
Here is what my doctor told me to do.... Get some Desitin (or zinc oxide), some type of anti-itch cream (with Hydrocortisone in it like Benedryl) and have the doc call in an antibacterial itch cream (that you need a script for). Then dump ALL of it in a bowl together (or "squeeze it" rather) and mix all of it TOGETHER! Use this as your "butt cream." It really works WONDERS and is better then anything else that you can put on him!!!! (put it in a container w/ a lid so that you have it around the house for any future rashes!)
Also... if you are using pampers (with the net lining on the inside) either switch the brand or rip out the net lining! I simply ripped out the lining (b/c we had like a YEARS supply of them!) They are usually in the diapers that say "baby dry" or "dry weave". In any case.. that netting tends to get stuck to the childs rear end causing a "wedgie" on the inside of the diaper. As this lining is riding up his butt it is causing some MAJOR chaffing and THAT is what makes your sons butt look like its rubbed raw and what makes it bleed!!
Also.. let him run around naked (as long as you can stand it) so that he gets some AIR to that rear end!! LOL And putting him in a bath with Corn Starch will help with the rash too!! Make sure NOT to give him any kind of bubble bath until the rash is COMPLETELY gone!!
I hope all that helped!!!
