He is a black persian, he has recently bitten off all the hair around his anus, down the inside of his back legs, and around his genitals. the exposed skin is Red and swollen, cant afford to take him to emergency veterinarian, so I have to wait until Monday. ANY ideas what this could be? We have zero fleas, and all of my kitties are strictly INDOOR only. Someone please help....he is miserable!|||What it sounds like he is doing is called 'fur mowing'. Cats will actually groom themselves bald in areas.
Fleas are usually the primary cause, but since you say he is flea-free, the vet will look for other problems. They may include other parasites, dermatitis, allergies, food intolerance or stress.
Until you can get to the vet on Monday, I would just get an old soft washcloth, wet it well with cool water and just hold it against the red places. Don't rub. The cool cloth may give some relief to the itching but won't disturb the underlying cause so the vet can find it when you see him.
Don't bathe him. Don't put any medicine on it, since you are not certain what is going on.

He needs to go to the vet, whatever it is. Check to see if his fur is knotted. This can cause quite an irritation causing him to pull it out. Try to wash him off with warm water It might help sooth it until you can get to the vet.|||Poor little guy. Some vets are open on Saturday mornings, call around. Has he eaten anything different lately? If it is allergy related it could be something other than fleas. Maybe he was bitten by something else? Maybe something in carpet or bedding like soap etc.? In any case the Vet is the answer. Make him comfortable and let him rest until you can get him there.
